Jewish circles here today learned from reliable sources that the Hungarian authorities have cancelled the licenses of 3,830 Jewish enterprises in the Sub-Carpathian part of Czechoslovakia which passed into the hands of Hungary. In addition, about 1,590 Jewish businesses there were notified that the Jewish owners are being left “temporarily” as managers of the firms until they can be replaced by Hungarians.

The elimination of Jews from commercial life in the part of Czechoslovakia which was annexed by Hungary is reported to be going on at great speed. Jews are forbidden to maintain stores or workshops on the main streets of even the smallest towns, unless they take in Christian partners. In towns where the percentage of Jewish business licenses exceeds the Christian, all Jewish licenses are being revoked. At the same time, the Hungarian Government is sending into Sub-Carpathia hundreds of Hungarian businessmen to take over Jewish enterprises or establish firms of their own. More than 400 such businessmen have received government subsidies amounting to about 2,000,000 pengoes, the report received here states.
