The Jewish population in Poland, already living under conditions of virtual starvation, has been forbidden to purchase any food except meager rations of bread and sugar, by a new Nazi decree reported in the German newspapers reaching here today.
At the same time, the Nazi authorities in Poland are cancelling the Polish passports of the Jews in the ghetto and are replacing them with special “Jewish passports.” Polish passports of more than 500 Jews in Warsaw were recently taken up. Similar action has been taken in Lodz and other cities.
With German reverses on the Soviet front forcing the Nazis to withdraw some of their troops from Poland, specially trained Ukrainians have taken been officially instructed to maintain the Nazi standards of severity in dealing with the Jewish inmates of the camps.
