Anticipating heavy bombing of German cities, Nazi authorities in the Reich are now completing the formation of mixed labor brigades of Poles and Jews to be sent to places often bombed by the Royal Air Force, it is reported in the “Stuermer” reaching here today.
The task of these brigades will be to extinguish fires while under attack by the British bombers, and to clear debris. Creation of these squads, the report states, will allow the local German population to remain in air-raid shelters until the raids are over. Capital punishment is provided for Jews and Poles in the brigades who are found to be negligent in performing their duties.
The Swedish newspapers today report that a crowd of several hundred angry Swedes nearly lynched an anti-Semite in a Stockholm street for distributing anti-Jewish leaflets. The man, whose name is not given, was saved by the arrival of police who arrested him, pending investigation.
