New severe measures against the Jews in France are now under discussion between the Nazi occupational authorities in Parts and the new French Commissioner for Jewish Affairs, Darquier de Pellepolx, according to reliable information reaching Free French circles here today.
In a broadcast last night from London to the people of France, a French officer, who was interned in Germany in the same war prisoners’ camp with Pellepoix, stated that Pellepolx was the first prisoner to be released from the camp since ha was identified by the Germans as a German agent, who prior to the outbreak of the war received funds from Germany to conduct anti-Jewish and pro-Nazi propaganda in France. While a war prisoner, Pellepoix continued to preach anti-Jewish propaganda among the French officers la the camp, but cowardly withdrew his anti-Semitic charges when a Jewish captain who was decorated for bravery slapped his face, the French officer related in kit broadcast.
