A petition to President Roosevelt drawing his attention to the fact that a million Jewish civilians have been annihilated by the Nazis in occupied territories and asking him “to raise the voice of America and its allies for the protection of the most defenseless nation in Europe” was telegraphed from here today by the Jewish Labor Committee following a conference in New York last night arranged by Jewish labor organizations to protest against the Nazi massacres of Jews in Europe.
“We ask you, Mr. President, to issue a declaration, in solidarity with the heads of the other governments of the United Nations, in which expression shall be given that civilized humanity is determined to demand an account from the leaders of the German people as well as from the people of Germany, for all the brutalities committed against the Jewish civil population in Europe,” the petition stated. President Roosevelt was also informed that two million American Jews and non-Jews will be signatories to this petition.
