Attempting to evade responsibility for the recently-revealed fact that 40,000 French children died on the roads and highways during the evacuation of refugees which followed Germany’s invasion of France in May, 1940, Nazi occupational authorities in a broadcast over the Calais radio today charged that Jews were responsible for the great exodus from Northern France southward at that time.
“Jews everywhere whispered: ‘Beware of the Germans, they will kill you,'” the Calais broadcaster stated. He, however, did not offer any explanation for the large number of deaths among the refugees, although it is common knowledge that this mass exodus was encouraged by the German High Command as a maneuver to hinder French troop movements.
