Bastille Day was marked in Palestine yesterday by impressive services in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, attended by prominent Fighting French, Jewish and British dignitaries.
In this city a special memorial mass was held in the church of Notre Dame de France for the Fighting French soldiers who fell in the heroic defense of Bir Hakeim in Libya during last month’s Axis offensive.
In Tel Aviv memorial services were held in the Great Synagogue in the presence of high French military officials. The synagogue was decorated with the blue and-white Zionist flag and the French tricolor. Mayor Israel Rokach and Rabbis Amiel and Toledano spoke.
