The vast network of primary and secondary schools which were maintained in Bucharest by both the Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities have been taken over by the Antonescu Government, under the decree announced earlier in the week which placed all Jewish-owned property “at the disposal of the government,” the Bucharest radio reported today. The schools were housed in modern well-equipped buildings.

Hospitals belonging to the Jewish community have also been seized by the Rumanian authorities, the broadcast disclosed. Other reports reaching here today indicate that the hospitals are needed by the Rumanian military command to take care of the thousands of wounded that are pouring into the country from the Russian front.

Other buildings owned by the Jewish communities, with the sole exception of synagogues, have also been confiscated.
