Jews throughout the world were called upon today to observe August 12, on the eve of the Hebrew month of Elul, as a day of fasting to mark the Nazi massacres of the Jews of Europe. In issuing the call the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada stated that this will be the first world-wide fast day called to protest the German atrocities.
Endorsement of the call has been received from the chief rabbis of Palestine, Britain, Argentina, Brazil and other South American republics, the Union announced.
