1,500 Jewish Fraternal Organizations Pledge Support to New York Charity Appeal

Delegates from 1,500 Jewish fraternal and benevolent organizations, representing memberships of 300,000, unanimously passed a resolution today to support the 1942 merged appeal of the New York and Brooklyn Federations of Jewish Charities on behalf of the 116 health and welfare agencies affiliated with the two Federations.

The delegates, assembled at the eighth Annual Convention of the Council of Fraternal and Benevolent Organizations, also elected Judge Jonah J. Goldstein of the Court of General Sessions, as president of the Council. Judge Goldstein succeeds James S. Hays who served as president for two successive terms. In a resolution adopted by the delegates, appreciation was expressed to Mr. Hays for his “sincere leadership and able guidance.”
