The murder by the Gestapo of two prominent rabbinical families in Poland was reported here today together with the news that death and disease among Jewish children in the ghettos are increasing “at an appalling rate.” The two rabbis killed are Tobias Horwitz of Sanok and his brother-in-law the rabbi of Blazowa. Rabbi Horowitz was a member of the Central Council of the world orthodox organization, Agudas Israel. They were executed together with their wives and children in the town of Rymanow.
The question of sending medical supplies and concentrated food to children in Poland, as well as to those in other Nazi-held countries, will be raised in London again as soon as the report of the Swedish Red Cross, which is supervising the distribution of food in Greece, reaches this country. The food situation in Poland is reported to be especially desperate among Jews since the Nazis have introduced a rigid control to prevent Jews from securing any kind of foodstuffs from Polish peasants.
