Expressing alarm at the growth of anti-Semitism in England, the London News Chronicle in a special article today declares that “something must be done soon as anti-Semitism is not only immoral and hurtful to one section of the community, but a menace to our democracy which degrades the entire community.”

Calling on people of all parties and religions to unite to fight “this fascist danger,” the Chronicle says, “everyone should stamp on it hard every time it is encountered because it is a menace to the good name and good sense of all of us.” The paper cites as an indication of the effectiveness of anti-Jewish propaganda, the fact that 42% of the persons queried in a recent public opinion poll estimated that there were many more Jews in England than actually reside here. Some persons even estimated that there were 3,000,000 Jews, while latest statistics show that there are about 300,000 in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
