Slovakian Anti-semitic Leader Arrested As Thief; “aryanization” Turns into Racket

The Slovakian press received here today reports that M. Hamala, one of the leaders of the Hlinka Guard, storm troop organization in Slovakia, who was particularly zealous in his persecution of the Jews, has been arrested on the charge of stealing articles from Jewish homes, many of which were found in his possession.

The Slovenska Pravda, a Slovak newspaper reaching here today from Bratislava complains that corruption and economic disorganization accompany the “Aryanization” of Jewish property in Slovakia to a point where the world “Aryanizer” has become one of the most hated words in the country.

The paper reports that wives of influential pro-Nazi officials in Slovakia have been appointed to direct important Jewish enterprises. They are unable to conduct the businesses, but they have the Jewish owners working for them and are interested only in collecting the daily proceeds. The Central Economic Office, the article discloses, is now engaged in checking up on the activities of all “Aryans” who have been appointed to direct Jewish firms. “These of them who will be found unsatisfactory as ‘Aryanizers’ will be removed from their posts,” the paper states. In the meantime the article demands that “Aryans in charge of Jewish enterprises who are not able to conduct these enterprises without the aid of Jews, should be removed from Slovakia’s economic life.”
