President Raczkiewicz, of the Polish Government, today announced the appointment of Emanuel Szerer, leader of the Polish-Jewish Socialist Party “Bund,” as a member of the Polish National Council to replace Samuel Zygelbojm who recently committed suicide in protest against the indifference of the democratic world to the Nazi extermination of the Jews in occupied Poland.

Mr. Szerer, who is now in New York, doing research on post-war problems for the Jewish Labor Committee, was born in Cracow where he was graduated as a lawyer. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Jewish “Bund” in pre-war Poland and was the editor of the “Walka,” a Polish labor organ combatting anti-Semitism. He came to the United States two years ago as a political refugee after succeeding in escaping from Nazi Europe.
