The establishment of a Ministry for Jewish Affairs by the Polish Government-in-Exile, with a Jewish member of the Cabinet, to be chosen by Jewish representatives, as the head of such a Ministry, is demanded today in Nowy Swiat, a New York Polish newspaper.
Dr. Stephen S. Wise, addressing a memorial service here today for the late Polish Prime Minister, Gen. Sikorski, held under the auspices of the Representation of Polish Jewry in the United States, declared that Gen. Sikorski “understood that the Jews in Poland have made their contribution to its strength. He viewed the Jews of Poland not as tolerated guests but as one of the groups which together made for a great future for the Polish Republic.”
“On behalf of the Jews of America,” Dr. Wise said, “I lay a wreath of honor upon the bier of General Sikorski. I mourn the loss of General Sikorski to Poland, to the United Nations, to the hopes of human freedom. Sikorski has died but the Polish Republic will live. We hold out our hands in deepest, truest, brotherly sympathy to the people of Poland in a great sorrow, which may God Heal.”
