For the first time in the history of the Jewish community of London’s East End, the Lord Mayor of the city today addressed a Jewish meeting here. The mayor, Sir Samuel Joseph, spoke at a meeting of the Federation of Synagogues, appealing to the Jewish community to uphold the enviable reputation it has gained. Other speakers at the meeting expressed satisfaction at the fact that a Jew was elected Lord Mayor of London at a time when Jewry is ostracized throughout most of Europe.

The executive council of the British Zionist Federation today unanimously adopted a resolution expressing its satisfaction at the adoption by the American Jewish Conference of a resolution supporting the demand for a Jewish Commonwealth in Palestine. The council expressed the hope that British Jewry will take similar action.
