The Nazi Government is prepared to release a number of Dutch Jews with a view to their emigration to Palestine on the basis of an exchange of a corresponding number of Germans who are now interned in Palestine. This information was received by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society here in a report from its European representative, Dr. James Bernstein, of the Hias-Ica Emigration Association at Lisbon.
The report stated that the offer of the German authorities was conveyed by the Hias-Ica Emigration Association to the Jewish Agency for Palestine, at Jerusalem, together with a request that the names of the refugees be included in the list of persons whom the British Government may be willing to exchange for the interned Germans. Most of the Dutch Jews whom the Nazi authorities are prepared to release for exchange are now inmates of the concentration camp at Westerborkdronte.
