Arrangements have been completed for the transfer to Canada of the first group of refugees now stranded in Portugal, according to a report submitted by Saul Hayes, executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress at the session of the National Council of the Congress held here. Mr. Hayes was a member of a delegation which recently visited Ottawa to complete the arrangements and assure the authorities that none of the incoming refugees will become a burden on the community.

The executive director announced that the next exchange ship from Japan will also bring to Canada 51 refugee Rabbis now stranded in Shanghai. The United Jewish Refugees Committee, a constituent body of the Congress, has decided to launch a nation-wide campaign for $500,000 for refugee relief.
