Desecration of synagogues, churches or cemeteries was made a felony punishable by up to three years in prison yesterday when Governor Thomas E. Dewey signed the Heller Bill, which had previously been passed by both houses of the Legislature. The legislation was introduced as a result of vandalism committed on synagogues, churches and cemeteries in New York City during the past year.
