Simon Marks, noted Jewish philanthropist and ardent supporter of the Zionist cause, was knighted yesterday on the occasion of the King’s birthday. Be holds the war post of deputy chairman of the London Industrial Mobilization Committee.

Sir Simon achieved prominence in England both as a businessman and a Jewish leader. He works at the side of Dr. Weizmann and during World War I was one of the most active leaders in the movement to bring about the issuance of the Balfour Declaration.

In 1936 he visited the United States as a member of a three-man British delegation, including Sir Herbert Samuel and Lord Bearstead, for the purpose of enlisting American Jewish cooperation in a large scale project for the emigration of Jews from Germany.
