Over a half million dollars worth of food, clothing, drugs and other items were contributed through the Jewish Council for Russian war Relief in March, April and May of this year, John L. Bernstein, treasurer of the Jewish Council, reported today to the national executive board. Included were 450,000 pounds of new and used clothing and over 37,000 household emergency kits in addition to drugs, medical books, watches and eye-glasses.
The largest clothing contribution in this period, Mr. Bernstein stated, was 212,497 pounds from New York, followed by 91,758 from Chicago and 71,404 pounds from Boston. New York also led the other cities in the number of kits – 12,267, followed immediately by Philadelphia with 10,572 kits.
