Jewish members of the U.S. armed forces held Rosh Hashonah services “almost within Germany” with Chaplain Herman Dicker of New York, a German refugee who received his rabbinical training in the pre-Nazi Reich, officiating.
Short prayers were also delivered during the two days of Rosh Hashonah at all advanced positions on the fronts in France, Belgium and Holland wherever Jewish servicemen were able to form a “minyan.”
