Moses Cohen, president of the Dutch Zionist Organization, escaped deportation to Poland by hiding in the home of a non-Jewish family here, it was learned today. Mr. Cohen is one of the 20 Jews remaining of the 600 who formerly lived in this city, prior to being driven into hiding, he was a patent expert for the vast Philips electric lamp and radio tube factory here.
About 100 highly skilled Jewish engineers were employed in the Phillips factory until last year when they were arrested by the Germans and deported to Berlin. Previously they had been placed in a separate building by the Nazis so that they would not come in contact with non-Jewish workers. The wives and families of these engineers were sent to Poland. Among those deported were Henry Cohen, an internationally known radio tube expert, His young son, however, is safe here.
