“There must be no Jewish problem in Egypt,” Premier Ahmed Maher Pasha said today, receiving Leon Castro, president of the Zionist Organization of Egypt, who called on the Prime Minister to express the appreciation of Egyptian Zionists for the manner in which the Government handled the situation arising from the assassination here of Lord Moyne.
Mr. Castro, who is also the representative of the Jewish Agency in Egypt, thanked Premier Maher for acting so as to avoid an outbreak which might have followed the assassination. Replying, the Prime Minister said that the activities of a few terrorists must not be allowed to reflect on the collective activities of the Jewish community, adding that Egyptian Jewry, especially, must be exonerated of any connection with such crimes.
The Premier said that he was determined that there be no Jewish problem in Egypt and added that as far as Zionism was concerned, it was an international problem which should be solved on an international peaceful basis. He expressed willingness to meet with Dr. Weizmann when the Agency president stops here en route to London.
Eliezer Kaplan, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, arrived here today to confer with officials of the Middle East Supply Center concerning the possibility of obtaining new industrial equipment for Palestine Jewish industry in order to expand production facilities to absorb returning servicemen.
