The House Labor Committee today approved by a rote of 12 to 2 a bill to set up a permanent Fair Employment practices Committee with law enforcement powers. The bi-partisan bill must now get approval from the House Rules Committee before it can come up on the floor for consideration.
Senate legislation on a permanent FEPC is in the hands of a sub-committee headed by Senator Dennis Chavez of New Mexico. Additional hearings are expected in view of Senator Robert Taft’s sponsorship of an FEPC measure without enforcement provisions.
