An appeal to American Jews in behalf of the United National Clothing Collection was issued here today by the Joint Distribution Committee and the 22 national Jewish agencies cooperating with it in the drive to collect 150,000,000 tons of used clothing for destitute war-victims abroad. Collections are now being made at depots in various parts of each city in the United States, and the drive will continue throughout the month of April.

The appeal emphasizes that Europe’s Jews had no new clothing for five years or more due to confiscation and discriminatory regulations against the purchase of replacements. All clothing collected will be distributed on the basis of need and available shipping facilities without discrimination of any kind. The Joint Distribution Committee will be the claimant for clothing in behalf of destitute and needy Jews abroad where these needs are not met by UNRRA.
