An appeal to the United Nations to deal justly with the long-suffering Jewish people by opening the gates of Palestine, was made today by the Rabbinical Council of America in a proclamation setting aside Thursday, June 28, as a national “Day of Repentance.”

In selecting June 28, the proclamation noted that it was the 17th of Tamuz, traditional Fast Day, which marks the saige of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A,D.and also that this day has always made the Jew “conscicus of the loss of his Home Land, Palestine, of the destruction of his religious center and of the weakness and failure of the people that brought on the catastrophe.”
