Jewish circles here are alarmed by a report that the Ministry of Justice is preparing to issue a decree placing all war orphans in the custody of a non-sectarian child welfare agency established by the resistance groups, which, the Jews charge, has refused to reveal the location of children under its care to their relatives.
Of a group of Jewish children repatriated six weeks ago, most were placed in private homes, but fifty-two were sent to a hostel in the town of Laren. A medical examination of this group disclosed that 29 were suffering from tuberculosis. Since there is not a single sanatorium for tuberculars remaining in Holland and since Switzerland will not admit persons suffering from the disease, 19 of the children in whom the infection is in a contagious stage have been placed temporarily in an abandoned Jewish home for the aged.
