Former Senator Guy M. Gillette has denied that he issued, or authorized anybody to issue in his name, a statement announcing that President Truman had written a letter to Prime Minister Attlee asking Britain to admit to Palestine 100,000 displaced Jews from Europe, it was learned here today.

The ex-senator took exception to a statement issued last week by the American league for a Free Palestine which said that Gillette, who is president of the League, had been authorized by President Truman to make such an announcement after being received in the White House together with Sen. Ralph Brewster and Sen. Warren Magnusson.

While not denying that he was received by the President, Gillette said that he has “issued or authorized no announcement and no statement” and that any report citing him as a source of the announcement that Truman sent a letter to Attlee is “absolutely unfounded.”
