An anti-Semitic campaign is being revived here for the first time since the beginning of the war, headed by Peruvian Social Justice, a political group composed of followers of former president Manuel Prado, whose publication Peru Nuevo has been conducting virulent attacks against the Jews.
Peru Nuevo, which is distributed gratis in Lima and other large cities of Peru, blames the Jews for the present inflation and other misfortunes which now beset the country. La Cronica, daily newspaper of Lima and strong supporter of Prado, has joined in the campaign with protests against a possible wave of Jewish immigration.
Leaders of the national democratic front, which supported president Jose Luis Bustamante in the June presidential elections, claim that the anti-Semitic campaign is a maneuver by enemies of the present administration to foment unrest and create difficulties.
Disappointment is felt among most members of the national democratic front over the failure of Dr. Rafael Belaunde, Minister of Interior, to take any action although the Jewish community in Lima lodged a formal protest more than two weeks ago.
