The Jewish refugees in liberated Shanghai and in other parts of China need have no fear concerning their future, a spokesman at the Chinese embassy here has assured leaders of the Agudas Israel.
He said that the authority of the Chinese Government will shortly be extended to all of Shanghai, including the former French concession, in which most of the refugees are living, and pledged that Jewish organizations abroad would be permitted and helped to bring assistance to the refugees.
The embassy official said that no obstacles would be placed in the way of refugees wishing to emigrate to Palestine, or elsewhere, and, at the same time, Jews desiring to immigrate to China will be welcome.
Jews of German nationality, he said, would not be treated as enemy aliens but as friendly foreign nationals. The Chinese Government, he added, is greatly interested in the general welfare of the Jewish people.
