Prime Minister Jan Smuts today described the Palestine situation as “as grave as any that has arisen since the troubled days immediately after the last war.”

In a message to the twentieth Zionist conference here, Smuts said: “I believe that a solution can and will be found, but it is not easy, and everything will depend on the amount of goodwill and common sonse that can be brought to bear on every side.”

N. Kirschner, president of the South African Zionist Federation, addressing the conference, reviewed the Jewish situation throughout the world, and demanded the Immediate abrogation of the White Paper and unrestricted Jewish immigration into Palestine.
