Josef Kramer, the “beast of Beisen”, and Ten Others Hanged for Atrocities in Camps

Josef Kramer, the “Beast of Belsen”, Irma Grese, chief woman guard at the camp, and nine other of the Belsen S.S. guards were hanged yesterday at Hamelin, Germany, by an official British hangman, it was announced this morning in a dispatch from Field Marshal Montgomery’s headquarters at Hamburg.

The eight men and three women executed were convicted by a British military court at Lueneburg on Nov. 17, after a nine-week trial. Nineteen defendants received varying prison terms, and 15 were acquitted.
