The first conference of the United Zionist Organization of Bulgaria to be held since the outbreak of the war opened here in the Jewish People’s House. The conference is being attended by 126 delegates from all parts of the country and numerous guests.
Services commemorating the millions of murdered Jews, the fallen Jewish soldiers of the Allied armies, as well as the dead of the Jewish Brigade were conducted by Chief Rabbi Daniel Zion. He stressed the necessity for Jewish unity.
The opening address was delivered by Haimoff, chairman of the UZO who, paying tribute to the fallen Jewish fighters, stressed the fact that Bulgarian Jewry had taken its place in the frontline of the liberators, and urged continuation of the struggle for Jewish national ideals. Greetings were sent to the conference by Bulgarian Premier Kimon Georgiev and General Biriusoff, chairman of the Allied Commission in Bulgaria.
The Poale Zionist Conference closed here with greetings to the Yishuv “for its heroic answer to the British policy of maintaining the White Paper,” The conference also called for the establishment of a free Jewish State, abolition of the White Paper, and the free immigration to Palestine of all Jews still in European camps.
