President Truman’s State of the Union message, delivered today to Congress, called attention to his recommendation for the enactment of a permanent FEPC, warning that fomenters of hatred were “busy again.” Following his message Southern senators resumed their filibuster against the FEPC.
He commented on the “great progress” made in the repatriation of displaced persons and expressed the hope that the Nuremberg war criminal trials “will bring whole-sale and permanent revulsion on the part of the masses of our former enemies against war, militarism, aggression and notions of race superiority.”
