Col. R. C. Caferata, British police superintendent in charge of the Haifa district, escaped injury when ambushed while motoring from his Mount Carmel residence to police headquarters early today.

He was descending a steep hill when his attackers, who had been following him in a stolen military truck, suddenly opened fire with an automatic weapon at a sharp band. Col. Caferata and his escort returned the fire and the attackers dashed of.
