A bill permitting the establishment of a new Hebrew college in Brooklyn, N.Y., was introduced into the State Legislature here yesterday.
The college, which would prepare students for teaching Hebrew and would advance the study of Hebrew ideals, tradition and culture, would be named for the famous Medieval Jewish philosopher, Moses Maimonides. The bill asks authorization for the college to grant Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Hebrew Literature degrees.
The trustees, led by Assemblyman Bernard Austin, who introduced the measure to the legislature, are seeking $2,000,000 to establish their school. They include: Rabbi Levi I. Kahane, David Rosenblatt, Henry P. Miller, Rabbi I. Asher Spevack, Dr. Robert H. Ofseur, Dr. Murray Boxer, Harry Grossman and Philip Rosenberg.
