Official circles here today expressed the hope that the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem would not return to the Middle East. Commenting on a report by the Palestine Arab weekly Al Widha that the exiled Arab leader was planning to move to Lebanon or Syria, these circles expressed doubt, however, that anything could be done to prevent his leaving France. A Router dispatch from Paris today said that the Mufti has no intention of leaving at present.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews yesterday adopted a resolution urging the Government to use every effort to transfer 100,000 Jewish DP’s to Palestine this year, and welcoming the abolition of the land restrictions recommended by the inquiry committee. It expressed regret, however, that the committee did not recommend establishment of a Jewish state “built on the principle of justice for Jew and Arab alike.”
