Maximillian Ross, a trustee of the Jewish Education Committee and chairman of the Brooklyn division of the Federation of Jewish Charities, today was named a member of the New York City Board of Education to replace Mary Dillon, whose reappointment had been opposed by the American Jewish Congress and other agencies.

Mayor William O’Dwyer did not explain why he had not reappointed Miss Dillon, who had served two terms as president of the board. She had been under fire from several groups for her alleged failure to sponsor an effective inter-racial program in the schools.
