Ort Women in America Will “adopt” 1,000 Jewish Orphans in Europe, Convention Hears

The women’s section of the American ORT will “adopt” 1,000 Jewish war orphans in Europe and will support them in ORT schools in their countries of residence, it was reported here today at the ninth biennial convention of the organization being held at the Commodore Hotel.

Dean Acheson, Acting Secretary of State, addressing the convention tonight praised the ORT for its accomplishments in aiding the rehabilitation of the Jews of Europe. He declared that the ORT approached the problem of aiding human beings with “deep understanding.”

Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union, reported that 15,500 persons are receiving training in the ORT schools and farm projects throughout the world. He disclosed that $350,000 in tools, machinery and materials have been sent abroad since V.E day.
