Twelve thousand Polish Jews streaming into Lower Silesia and the western region of Poland from Asiatic Russia during the past five days in an accelerated repatriation movement have brought the total of Polish Jews returning from wartime havens in the Soviet Union to more than 60,000, the Joint Distribution Committee was advised today by William Bein, J.D.C. director in Poland.
Mr. Bein stated that transports of Polish Jews are arriving daily. While their general health condition is fair, he called, “there are numerous cases of tuberculosis among them, plus several malarial cases in a group arriving from Turkmenia, in Middle Asia.”
