285 Refugees Leave Shanghai for Australia; Largest Group to Sail Since End of War

Two-hundred and eighty-five Jewish men, women and children, the largest contingent of refugees to leave here for overseas since the capitulation of Japan, sailed today for Australia aboard the S.S. Gen. Gordon. They will land at Sydney, from where they will be re-routed to points of permanent settlement in various parts of the country. Their passage was arranged by the Joint Distribution Committee.
