The final session of the Senate Committee on Immigration heard an urgent appeal today for the admission to Canada of large numbers of displaced Jews “who are languishing at present in various European DP camps.” Representatives of the National Committee on Refugees pointed out that under existing Canadian immigration laws, even people like Albert Einstein could not be admitted.
“By opening its doors to immigration, Canada will send a ray of hope to the Jewish DP’s who are on the verge of demoralization,” it was stressed. The refugee group spokesmen strongly criticized the present regulations which they said favor wealthy and farmer immigrants.
