President Truman denied today reports that he has been in telephonic communication with Prime Minister Attlee on the Palestine problem. He said that Secretary of State Byrnes was conducting negotiations with the British Premier and that he was in touch with Mr. Byrnes.
Replying to a question at his press conference, the President said that the White House statement of yesterday covered the situation at the moment, and that he had nothing to add.
The three Cabinet Committee alternates, whom Mr. Truman said yesterday he was calling home to confer on the British-sponsored plan which they had approved, arrived by air in Washington late this afternoon. Henry Grady, head of the delegation, told reporters that he had no comment on the Palestine issue.
