A Jewish delegation today called upon the Minister of Interior here and asked for strict measures to suppress growing anti-Jewish propaganda in the country which is causing anxiety to the Jews of Rumania.
The delegation reported that a number of recent anti-Jewish incidents point to the fact that reactionary elements are stimulating anti-Jewish activities in various parts of the country. In one town, it reported, a rumor was spread that the Jews pillaged and desecrated a local church which was soiled by unknown vandals. In the town of Tulcea, clashes broke out when Jewish traders there offered their wares on the market place at prices cheaper than their non-Jewish competitors. In Tarcul Ocna the local population, under the influence of anti-Semitic propagandists, refused to accept the aid of Jews who volunteered to put out a forest fire.
In presenting these facts to the Minister, the Jewish delegation urged that an investigation be launched to establish the leaders of the anti-Semitic ring of propagandists operating in the above towns. The Minister assured the delegation that he will take all necessary steps to suppress any anti-Jewish activities.
