Philip Auerbach, formerly head of the Jewish communities in the British zone, has been appointed commissioner of Jewish affairs in Bavaria, it was reported today. He succeeds Hermann Aumer, who was forced to resign last month.
The JTA learns that the original plan to incorporate the Jewish affairs office into an overall department for political “persecutees” has been abandoned because of popular opposition. The most probable solution, and the one now under consideration, is to retain two independent offices, but to place both of them under the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior. Under the present administrative set-up, the Jewish affairs office is a completely independent agency responsible only to the Minister-President.
