A handful of ashes brought back from Chelmno, a notorious Jewish extermination camp in Poland, was buried here today in the most mournful ceremony ever witnessed in this all-Jewish city, and attended by at least 100,000 persons.

The black box containing the ashes was placed in a holy shrine in the Great Synagogue prior to being taken to the cemetery, while Chief Rabbi Ben Zion Uziel led the funeral ceremonies. Mayor Israel Rokach delivered the eulogy.
