The report of an investigation conducted by a special committee into the conduct of Dr. Joseph Lowenherz, director of the Vienna Jewish Community during the Nazi regime, which was made public here today, states that his activities were not only “beyond reproach,” but that Dr. Lowenherz, at the risk of his life, rendered outstanding services to the Jews of Vienna, saving the lives of tens of thousands and alleviating the tragic fate of many more.”
The investigating committee was appointed by the Association of Austrian Jewish Refugees in Great Britain, the Alumni Association of Zionist Fraternities of Austrian Universities, and the Jacob Ehrlich Society in London. “The Committee feels bound by justice and honor to express on behalf of the Austrian Jewish immigrants in this country its confidence in and gratitude to Dr. Lowenherz and its appreciation of his heroic and unselfish struggle against the cruel treatment of Austrian Jews by the Nazis,” says a statement issued in London.
