A British soldier was killed and another seriously injured by an unknown assailant, who attacked them while they were walking on the Street of the Prophets in Jerusalem, it was announced tonight by military headquarters.

Earlier, seven young Jews, arrested last night when one of them blew the shofar at the Wailing Wall at the conclusion of Yom Kippur services, were released under bail. Their arrest was the only incident to occur during Yom Kippur.

Police today halted an Arab bus traveling between Jerusalem and Jaffa and seized four Jewish and four “Arab” passengers, as well as a quantity of arms. The “Arabs,” who were compelled to doff their headgear, turned out to be Jews wearing wigs.
