Assistant Secretary of War Howard Petersen, accompanied by Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, advisor on Jewish affairs to the U.S. forces in Europe, and high ranking Army officers who deal with displaced persons problems today visited the Feldafing DP camp for Jews, south of Munich.

As Petersen and his party walked about the former Hitler youth camp, over 4,000 of the displaced Jews followed them. Some constantly asked members of the party whether their presence was in any way connected with the possibility of going to Palestine. Petersen refused to make any comment.

Later, the Assistant Secretary, who handles DP problems for the War Department, met with delegates of the Jewish Central Committee and conferred with them on various aspects of the DP situation. One of the main points of the meeting was a discussion of the committee’s plan for the establishment of a “DP economy.”
